Hi Gillian! I was very happy when I read your post - as I'm another 75+yr old just starting out with a campervan, just me and my dog Toby. Which I'm finding exciting but scary at the same time. So much I don't know - simple things like how do I fill my water tank at campsite - what kind of hose connection do I need ?! I was glad u asked about the battery as I didn't know either! I got van last year but was then out of action for 9 mths having 2 new hips! just back on the road post op. Now on the Gower peninsula - have been to Yorkshire, Dales and coast, and Northumberland coast. Want to do west coast of Scotland & islands, & west of Ireland. Let me know how you're getting on!
Now ironed out 'my van' .... vehicle battery is only cha rged by alternator ... leisure battery charged as well by alternator but also by mains hook up...now that is clear I know how to proceed
I have sympathy with all the upheaval you are going thru ... I for sure have more choice in my life ... my husband died in 2004 and I am still trying to learn a new life ... all be it several takes on the idea up to now ... but for the most part I am a free agent ... feel that if I am granted a long life .. maybe 10 more yrs may have enough energy to keep experimenting .. then what!!! ... but hey ho ... every day is a bonus. I am living in North Suffolk on the coast but hanker for some hills and lochs ...
From the little I know, only the leisure, i might be totally wrong of course, very green myself, age 59, decided to go solo female Vanlife, and there is a lot I need to learn. Waiting for conversion to be finish sometimes in August. What type of van do you have?
