Hi van folks! As a long time admirer of vans, casting envious glances at everything from T1s to Bongos, it's finally time for me to take the plunge...
I'm a more than competent woodworker and DIYer, so the plan is to get a base van and do all the insulation & boarding myself, get a pro in to do the electrics (240V hookup, solar & leisure battery, 12 & 240V sockets, powered fan roof vent), then bed and furniture again is all me.
The base van won't be an everyday vehicle, but will be pressed into occasional use so it's important that it's a decent and relatively economical mover. With that in mind (plus availability of spares and repairs) I think the obvious choice is the tradesman's friend, a Transit Custom - L2H1, 170PS. I've had a look and there's plenty around with decent mileage, fleet servicing history, and the options are endless (either buying as is or via aftermarket mods) to suit what i'm after (e.g. passenger side rear access only with privacy glazing, solid rear panel driver side, tailgate rear opening also glazed).
I have a solid idea in my head of what the finished article will look like and how to make it happen, but what I can't seem to find is a basic internal floorplan of a (UK) Transit, just to sketch it all out. I have all the published dimensions, but that's not quite enough.
Can anyone help? A CAD drawing would be the ultimate (i'm an experienced engineering draughtsman), but any vaguely accurate drawing would be lovely. Mainly so I can convince my wife-to-be that my vision is achievable, practical and that it's better than money in the bank 😁
You can choose either left hand drive or right hand drive on any of the vans so is fine for the UK 👍
Hi, Congrats on taking the plunge, exciting times ahead!!
